Mrs.
Sorbera and Mr. Madelone’s 7th Grade – Mr. Spisto, Principal
I.S. 24B,
Staten Island, New York
I take dance lessons at the Staten Island Ballet every
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Dancing is what I live for. I thrive on it.
Dancing isn't just a hobby. It's what I do. When I am on stage, all of my
emotions collide together as if I was a butterfly letting out her wings. I feel
like I don't have a single care in the world. It's just me out there. When I
grow-up I want to be a prima ballerina. I love how people smile when I finish
my routine. It just warms my heart too see people so bright and happy. I feel
as if I am making a positive contribution to society.
To spread my love for dance, I put on monthly performances
at my grandmothers senior citizen complex. When I go on stage, the whole room
becomes so quite it's a little scary. My sister turns on the music and I am
off. It feels as if I'm in a dream world, unconscious to what's going on around
me. I point my feet as best as I could and try to polish off my pirouette. I
hear a camera going off and then I see the light in my eye as I do a grade
jette. The music ends and my heart stops. The time has passed too quickly. The
sound of applause brings me back to the real world. I clutch my heart, unable
to breath. I almost cry seeing how proud of me my parents are.
Every winter, my dance school puts on their yearly
production of the Nutcracker. I have participated in this event for the past
three years. This show helps children in my community discover the wonders of
ballet. I am usually a "Party Girl." There are intense rehearsals and
strict guidelines that you cannot break. The show features professional artists
from around the world. There is a lot of hustle and bustle surrounding this
happening. The company costumes us and everyone looks absolutely gorgeous. This
year I am going to wear a white lace dress with sweet little flowers along the
edges. My favorite part is doing my make-up. What can you say?
I'm a girl. We wear black mascara, brown eye shadow, and lipstick. My mother
does my hair in a big bow.
I know that becoming a professional ballerina is going to take a lot of work but it is my dream and I am going to live it out- no matter what!
